I want to buy a headband magnifier.
Anyone recommend a good one? Or one to avoid?

my dad was a jeweler and he used one. it used to be called the "vigor vision visor" but no longer.

This looks pretty good, the light would be a real bonus. At that price, you can afford a couple of them....

No idea how well the product you linked to might work. I've been using Optivisors for years - have 2 at work for my day job and 2 in my shop. I use a #3 lens for most of my close-up work and a #10 lens less often when I need a very magnified view. Of course I don't have an included light.

I bought one very similar 4/5 years ago, still works, still use it all the time when necessary.
Not too heavy, the light doesn't have a lot of spread, but I use daylight desk lights anyway.
You can get it cheaper if you're prepared to wait a couple of weeks

The name catgut is confusing. There are two explanations for the mix up.

Catgut is an abbreviation of the word cattle gut. Gut strings are made from sheep or goat intestines, in the past even from horse, mule or donkey intestines.

Otherwise it could be from the word kitgut or kitstring. Kit meant fiddle, not kitten.

wow, i should live in the uk. that price for the whole kit is what i paid just for one 10X lens -from amazon several years back.

Thanks, Colin, I bought the first ones you recommended. I like the way they flip up and down! At £9 a go it's worth a try.

I've got the optivisor with the light and the light is kind of nice to have but not absolutly great either. More often then not I never use the light.

I've got the Stew-Mac headband magnifier.
It's got good optics and I'm pleased but the optional LED lights I think are not bright enough.
I think I will take a more powerful lamp of an old headband and mount it on the stew-mac gear.

I use this magnifier with the led lights from Rio Grande. I like them.

I replaced my headband magnifier with a variety of Goodwill reading glasses, up to +4.

Do any of you wear prescription eyeglasses? I do, and use these. They are light weight, inexpensive, and flip out of the way. I've been known to forget I'm wearing them and end up in the checkout line. Not a good look..! Better than the headband, I suppose..

For us old guys with bifocal glasses this unit called mageyes works real well as you look down through it.
